Marcelo Suárez-Orozco to Address OECD

Wasserman Dean will deliver keynote on "Making Migration Work for All Children," May 31.

Wasserman Dean Marcelo Suárez-Orozco will deliver a keynote on “Making Migration Work for All Children” at a joint meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development on May 31 in New Brunswick, Canada.

“I am delighted and humbled to represent UCLA GSE&IS at this important gathering of leading Canadian and other OECD scholars, policy makers, and practitioners on one of the defining education issues of times: the education and well being of immigrant and refugee origin children,” says Suárez-Orozco, who co-directs the Institute for Immigration, Globalization, & Education at UCLA. “With immigrant and refugee origin children representing the fastest growing sector of the child and youth population in a growing list of high and middle-income countries, Canada, and the U.S. among others, their education, well-being, and transition to new societies is an imperative with significant consequences for economies and societies the world over.”
